Drawing light from the darkness - this is how I describe the art of scratchboard.  It is a process of subtraction rather than one of addition and it allows the drama of light and dark to play off each other in fascinating ways. On the other hand, painting on feathers adds a touch of magic to the work, a feeling of being a part of nature.   These are my inspirations and sharing wildlife moments is my passion.

Artist Statement

My artwork springs from a deep passion for capturing the intricate details of wildlife through uncommon materials and techniques. I create etchings on scratchboard by delicately removing the black India ink on the surface to reveal the hidden textures beneath the surface. In addition, my feather art is a celebration of nature that brings a bit of magic to each wildlife piece. Painting on feathers with acrylics allows the natural texture of each feather to shine through, giving every piece a unique character and life of its own.

Because my soul desires photorealistic processes both scratchboard and feather art satisfy that need. What draws me to a particular scene is the emotional resonance,  along with the striking contrasts of light and shadow, creating a story beyond the image itself.

My inspiration comes from the ever-changing particularity of wildlife and the natural environment. Each moment is fresh and new, continuously fueling my creativity and passion. Beyond that I believe in presenting the truth of the natural world in a way that represents my own awe and wonder.

The techniques I use demand a gentle, feather-like touch, patience, and focused attention. Painting on feathers requires a careful hand that respects the delicate surface, while etching on scratchboard involves a subtle balance of pressure to develop rich values and depth. These unique methods contribute to the distinctive quality and emotional impact of my art, satisfying my desire for realism enriched with meaning and wonder.
